Welcome to Parenthood.

This was our first mass email the day after Quinn was born.  It kinda gives you a more realistic idea of what the first days after the birth of a child are like.

So it's 730 in the morning and we're beat.  Richard left around 5pm yesterday and we finally had the baby to ourselves.  The quiet time was nice but all it really did was make us realize how tired we were.  I honestly don't even know what we did until bedtime.  Feeding's and naps I assume.  Marika's having a tough time with physical after effects of labor and delivery.  It's tough, the body goes through so much and she's just beat up.  But's she's no matter how hard up she's feeling as soon as little baby girl is with her she just powers through it.  Pretty tough for a lady who gets light headed just by mentioning the IV she had yesterday.  But I think that's just what mothers do.

I think everyone saw how sleepy Quinn was yesterday and yes, that meant she didn't have much sleep left in her by nightfall.  The last couple feedings before we tried to go to bed were very light and Quinn didn't eat much.  So yes, that meant she was very hungry when wife and I were very tired.  The logbook says we fed her at 11:15, 2:30, and 5:30 which doesn't seem so bad now.  But from about 930 last night to 4 this morning neither of us slept for more than about 30 minutes at a time and by 3 we were both about as tired as we've ever been, really not exaggerating that either.  By 4:15 she finally decided she was tired and we did finally get her in the crib.  Such a moment of relief when we put her into the crib and she slept.  I think I heard trumpets and people cheering.  The hour of sleep went by way too fast.  But it helped enough.

Mother and daughter are resting and I'm sending this which hopefully means I'll get a nap in soon.  We'll see.  If anyone wants to come by today they're more than welcome to, just give us a little warning so we can be try not to be a family of tired and grumpy people.

Kidding, we're always tired and grumpy.  :)

Oh and thanks to everyone for all the food and gifts.  The hospital food is **** (awesome).  So all the snacks are super, but that doesn't mean anyone needs to bring anything else, there's a lot of food in our room.  We could probably host a small party.

Thanks

Greg (exhausted) Marika (exhausted) and little baby Quinn (might be a vampire as she much prefers sleeping in the daytime)
